I have just spent the last 30 minutes reading more of www.freeflan.blogspot.com or Taren"s blog.... This girl, too can write... all of what I have said or thought over the last 50.5 years... and yes, I believe we are born with a working mind !!... It is also uncanny that she reminds me of another beautiful free spirit... my very own daughter..see the commentary on the movie "twilight" ...exactly what Heidi stated!!

Enjoy.....

I have to sign up for a creative writing class ...I too will turn life's experience into a world of words which will spring alive from the page to one's minds' stage...for the performance we can only dream about... will always dream about...

Thank you ,Taren for inviting me into your world.....

The List......I had to copy it too...and the comments....credit given where due....so true!!

HELP! (mystery man for president)
Someone needs to find the author of THIS LIST. I've seen it close to a dozen times - on facebook, mommy blogs, you name it I've seen it... there. Today I saw it on a fashion themed blog, of all places. The list is genius really, but I can't help but feel sad for the author every time this thing gets passed on to another group of people. Basically, what am saying is someone out there is not getting the recognition they deserve. It's a shame I tell you, a shame. Not to mention, if that author were me I'd be Pissed. With a capitol 'P'.

Let's make a difference. We can find this man. I read somewhere that it was a man. Might very well be a woman. I think it's a him. See what I mean about not getting the recognition they deserve? We don't even know the gender of this genius for Pete's sake!

Oh, what the heck. What's one more copy and paste to add to the list? Here it is... (I don't even know the official title of this. What. a. SHAME.)

I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

That's enough, Nickelback.

I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know" feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?

Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.
There is a great need for sarcasm font.

Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.

I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

How are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

Was learning cursive really necessary?

Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".

I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

My brother's Municipal League baseball team is named the Stepdads. Seeing as none of the guys on the team are actual stepdads, I inquired about the name. He explained, "Cuz we beat you, and you hate us." Classy, bro.

Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart.”

How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent an idiot from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!

Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"

What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.

Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

I would like to officially coin the phrase 'catching the swine flu' to be used as a way to make fun of a friend for hooking up with an overweight woman. Example: "Dave caught the swine flu last night."

I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

Bad decisions make good stories.

Whenever I'm Facebook-stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!

Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier and sluttier every year?

If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

Why is it that during an icebreaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Dang it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

When I meet a new girl, I'm terrified of mentioning something she hasn't already told me that I have learned from some light internet stalking.

I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.

I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.

Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey- but I'd bet everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How do I respond to that?

It really ticks me off when I want to read a story on CNN.com and the link takes me to a video instead of text.

I wonder if cops ever get ticked off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

The other night I ordered takeout, and when I looked in the bag, saw they had included four sets of plastic silverware. In other words, someone at the restaurant packed my order, took a second to think about it, and then estimated that there must be at least four people eating to require such a large amount of food. Too bad I was eating by myself. There's nothing like being made to feel like a fatty before dinner.

Long, but definitely worth it. If it weren't for the "My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day..." line I would have turned this post into a desperate plea to find my future husband. I mean, seriously... this list is genius, and I picture myself with a genius.

Let's find the one person who said the things we wished we could but didn't know how. And then maybe we can make him President? Yeah?

aha! He has a brother that is in a baseball team call step brothers. lets find this baseball team and ask them if they know. but googling it only brings up this list on more blogs! so that was a fail.

Oh my I haven't seen that before. I loved it. How did he get inside my brain. Having the remote in a room full of people? Me. Getting nervous introducing myself? Me.

By the way,

Getting in the shower before turning on the water - that's me. I think it is weird that Dave does it the other way around.

I haven't seen this list before. However, I have seen plenty of annoying facebook fan pages with those things listed over the last year. Funny funny. Freakishly long though.

Go back to clothed much and scroll to the bottom of her post. Do I get a prize for leading you to the place where you find your mystery man? (can't take credit for finding him myself so I have to try for something)

The bit about watching a movie you love so much becomes stressful with other people is very true.
Zoolander is that movie for me.
I constantly tell people how much I love it, and then force them to watch it.
And then its awkward when its over and they have a 'meh' reaction.
I feel so rejected.

Goodbyes ,new Beginnings and Birthdays.... May 2010

Birthday Wishes, Heidi!!

Bailey checking out the bunny rabbits at our apartment....Sadly he never got stay here....

Heidi's birthday day.....The month of May...sweet and teary......The house sold to a very nice lady... Priscilla was so excited to finally own her own home! I was hapy for her.... happy to move away from the house that had become a stressor....I had lived there for 17 years....I had updated the floors etc....and now the repairs and maintenance were once again rearing their now ugly heads....and still without an essence of Male in my life....I ,of course had my wonderful Home Teachers....Life gets busy...their's and mine....I would often receive quarterly not monthly visits between schedules and family commitments..in between times I got to hate having to call for "help" The last time I had a flood of water..yes, it was 9:40 pm...it was going through the ceiling to the basement and to the garage...I didn't panic but needed that male support and advice ...and to turn the water off...which I could do...but I wanted to make sure I made the right choice.....call the plumber.....was the response.....well, yes.. but couldn't I do that in the morning after evaluating if it was an immediate response or not? I wanted to double check that I had the correct place in mind to turn the water off...I called Carl, Shannon's husband.. they had the same style house as me...although ,we learned long ago that the "same" doesn't mean the "same" at all! It depended on the laborers who made on-site (personal) decisions when the houses were being built... Carl came over.. the water was turned off....the plumber called in the morning and because I felt so guilty at not handling it myself,I had them fix a toilet flush that I already had parts for... their cost..$300!! yakes..oh well... it was done.. a drain block... which was also $300....it is buried....and long gone from my mind.. tho it is good to blog about it... lets call it the funeral...

MY EMPTY HOUSE .....(photos)....7 years ago my neighbour,Pat who loved DIY projects, taught me how to lay the tile flooring in the kitchen....I also had to enlist his help to finish putting the cupboards and drawers together that line the dining room wall.....My brother-in-law Martin executed a fantastic piece of art in laying the laminate wood floor in the living area....

The house sold for $135,000... way lower than the "correct" value...such is the economic life right now... the mortgage company was nice.. in fact,I did not talk to them at all.. Jenny and Michelle... the incredible Real Estate Duo....did all that;the closing was done in a few minutes... and the best statement Jenny made.."the loan is legally gone..they cannot ever go after you for the difference....". It was hard to accept that I failed to uphold my end of the contract to pay the loan back.....I had to...I had to start the move forward...
So.. the mortgage company accepted Priscilla's offer on Friday 7th....we set the closing for a day Michelle and I had no commitments....Thursday May 13th..... and me to be out by Sunday... yakes!!... what had I agreed to?.. It was the best ..I had been putting off "packing" even tho I knew the move date would come as sudden as it did.... and yes.. with the help of my dearest friends.. who dropped what they had planned ....we did it... first things first.... I had to go find a place to rent...I had been looking and had called places close to work...One girl told me that Bailey,my not-so-big -to-me softie German Shepherd was on their restricted list..so, she said, you can give him to somebody then you can come here!!" I think she just might be blonde and a bit SAE (soft above the ears)!... ... it didn't take long to lease an apartment where the office staff loved Bailey ....a few hours.. the decision made quickly... Bailey was with me on that Monday, He greeted everyone who came into the office... He came back with me the next day to see where the apartment was..it was late when all the paperwork was finished. It had been warm and sunny ; we had been driving around and hanging out with Peter who was doing the lease and in between seeing to all the other tenant needs most of day....we went home happy and tired!

the bathroom is huge with a walk-in-closet ...not shown....didn't take a photo...nor of the bedroom....

My empty 1 bedroom apartment

The packing and move done....and then I had to work the following three days (18,19,20 May) I had been staying at Deni's as had Bailey ,Tilly and Margot(the cats) Bailey stayed with Deni while I stayed at the apartment so I could work and clear a pathway of boxes without the animals to look out for.... I had put down to have the 20th off... it was Heidi's birthday and the last of those three shifts.
Deni called me as I was driving home that wednesday evening...Bailey was acting a bit weird but he went with them to the park ..Deni was thinking he needed a break from Skip and Neville..Bailey knew Deni's dogs..Neville is an energetic Lab PUPPY...He loved to play with Bailey... and Bailey being an older gentleman would put him in his place.....Deni said Bailey was antsy, kept walking in circles around them..but it was ok... I said I'd come get him, especially as it was almost a yes for me to be on call the next day at work... I was at the apartement and got ready for bed... 15 minutes later Deni called.. Bailey had been really unsettled when they got home.. Deni took him outside where he promptly fell to the ground with a grand mal seizure.... She told me that a chair had been dragged into the living room and things strewn on the floor at lunchtime when she had come home....now it made sense. Bailey must have had a seizure or two during the day time....I was on my way.. I still thought it not something to get upset about.. dogs and people have seizures.. take meds to control them and continue to live a good life....Bailey was 8..He had just had tow vet check-ups.. a full blood panel that had been normal. It would be a one time event that would need phenobarbitol.. that was all....

I pull up.. Deni has Bailey lying down on the grass bank. He notices me .. jumps up , his tail wagging nineteen to the dozen!...I take the leash and immediately see, feel and know that he is not right. I had spoken with the vet office on the drive down....I have to take him in... now! Bailey wouldn't follow,he is walking one -directional way..It was not easy to get him in the car.. he got himself caught in the seat..somehow.... I had to hold him while Deni drove....

Bailey continued to have seizures....lessening after he was given Valium IV.......I was "allowed" to see him before I left him there....He was awake, panting and snowed by the drug, laying in a small "cage" He did not show any signs of knowing I was there.......I say allowed because Bailey decided to seize again before the Vet came into the room...I had stated on entering the hospital that a little Valium was needed here....Bailey was so distraught! 20 minutes later and we were still waiting...The tech who was not wearing any identification and did not introduce herself, was asking questions did call out immediately for the vet to come when I said another seizure was coming on..I saw drooling and down he went ...of course she would but only after she saw for herself...what else could she do?... yes, I get a bitter taste thinking of her..the experience of my last hours with Bailey are a little marred by this girl who happened to be working that night....her attitude was that I am more important than you for your dog...yes,dog..not pet...or bailey... right now ...I am allowed to be by his side and you are not... Because I was taught by my Mother and instinctively show good manners..I asked if I could go with them ..I knew they were going to put in an IV and give Valium...the universal treatment for seizures....and he was in "status epilepticcus" She stated no,so I stayed.. the small consulting room grew stuffy and uncomfortable..I opened the door to the treatment area...Veterinary hospitals appear to not have the regulations I as an RN have to adhere to...drugs,pills and potions were lining the shelves....syringes,needles and instruments in visual sight...I would not let just anyone back there...however ,I was someone... to Bailey...who trusted everyone.. but that was not the issue.. Something was happening to him that he did not understand... he needed ...I needed we needed the familiarity of family....
Understanding on a professional and medical level what was happening ...I feared that Bailey had to be intubated...Nurses always think of the worst scenario...all was quiet except for the tech's complaining voice..."She wanted Valium when she came in... so guess what!!!"...I stood quietly... holding onto some sense of calm......then "She was pissed that she couldn't come back here!".... it only took a moment..."I have learned to let other medical personnel get on wth their interventions when I am 'on the other side".. it is not easy.....I bite my tongue hard.... My Bailey-Boy was having to listen to this too... while he was fighting for his life and slipping into a world vacant of his familiar earth life... I stated calmly but loudly...."I am a Neonatal intensive care nurse... I have every right to be with him.. and you need to careful what you say.. you do not know who is listening... this door is open because it is hot in here.. and I can hear you.." I did not see or hear her again...
Dr King came into the room a few minutes later.. he brought with him a calm tranquility.. and proceeded to tell me of Bailey's treatment, condition and medical management plan.He asked and answered questions..... seeking the answer as to why the seizures had started...no mention of the tech....a beautiful bedside manner..soothing oil on troubled waters....Deni and I left shortly after the sweet and tearful visit. I called and got no answer... I knew it had started out a busy night for Dr King....I called again at 0700...Dr King told me he would call me after rounds.. I got up and drove to the hospital anyway.... Dr King told me that Bailey had required another dose of Valium....and that he had taken him outside.. He appeared vacant showing a central neurological deficit...He walked veering to the right....he would not ..could not sit down..stay still... some discussion later.... Bailey and I left to say our goodbyes outside...I had wanted to take him home...to the park where we had shared so much time... Dr King said he would stay after his shift.. He had been up all night.. I needed to let bailey go... He did not know me... he was out of our world... Bailey ...my proper gentleman... had left for the next world....below are photos of our last time together..Deni came from work as were walking back inside

Healthy eyes

I cannot remember what it is like to view the world without the aid of visual devices...
At age 13 my brain began interpreting the blackboard at school in an increasingly frustrating blur...off to the optician...I wish I had a photo of that first pair of "corrective glasses"....they cost 12 pounds sterling and were the cheapest from the NHS selection. I tried not to wear them ...(don't all kids feel subconsciously "4 eyes" those first years?).. then they broke in two!!.. and yes,my Dad fixed the bridge with tape...I wore them that way for what seemed a very long time! My second pair were more my choice and a gold coloured metal frame..I was so excited!! Over the years eyeglass styles have changed in fashion and design...Contacts were introduced...I have a not bad stigmatism but it seems very hard to get the optimum lens prescription to correct them...
At 17, I had a retinal haemorrhage;3 months after the event I saw an eye specialist..Mom and I traveled on the bus to Maidstone (Kent,England) one of the exams was stating where the red dot was....in relation to a red line....apparently the red dot was never where it should have been..according to my brain! The Doctor was being called for an emergency consultation and stitching around an eye... he did not want to leave.."Fascinating" he kept saying..
Roll on a few years.. I tried contacts...I have found that my vision has to be quite unblurred....or I get cranky..contacts did not work.....
Lasik?.. too expensive and would I be left with less vision?

New advances... in 2008 it was time for check up.. and wow.... a picture of inside my eyes were taken... oops!!... see that disc area around the optical nerve entry?? yes...well, it looks bigger than it should be.. but this might be "normal" for you...
Off to the specialist I went.. A very nice Dr, staff and practice..I now go there for all my visual medical needs. Dr Jim Conahan....of United Eye Centers.
to cut two years down.. this summer I will probably start treatment for glaucoma as my pressures are increasing. and I picked up my first progressive lenses...hey, I can see the lines...no more blur around the edges...well..it's another story when my eyes are tired!! .. woohoo!! and I wear them all the time....lol!!
