A busy New Year....along with a little bit of couch potatoness

Supasal is back!!..

Over the years I know we have all had our share of aches and pains....and I do empathize .really...I can whine and share about my own ..stop reading now if you don't want to listen!
...... the telling signs and symptoms of aging....the niggling notion of I'm failing simply because of my body and mind just don't want to respond as instantly as when in my prime....oh, how I want to go back to those care free sunshiny days.....of when my physical abilities were as endless as my Spirit....and yes, looking at the BIG picture...I'm not so old.....in fact,I'm too young to receive what would return me to the independence I know and love....

Here is the problem....

In October, after weeks of experiencing pain when I walked, in my right knee...I finally conceded that it was not going away...I made an appt. with an orthopoedic Doctor....He confirmed that indeed, my knee was in dire need of medical attention....Xrays and an MRI showed a torn meniscus and lots of arthritis....I needed an arthroscopy to fix the meniscus ;actually, it was in shreds and removed and the bones were scraped of as much arthritis as could be removed..that was 2 weeks ago..yes.. the wait was the next available spot on the OR schedule...and the Christmas Holidays...I was working 2 shifts a week.....now I am concentrating on getting my knee joint to work better! The Doctor advised that within 5 years I would need the replacement...I say why not NOW... the need is NOW....so..it is not to be NOW because of those who have the power..I must clarify that... that is the insurance thingamajigs...not the Docs..say that replacements last 10 years ......and I am too young...I guess I'm only allowed 2?....if I have not karked it by then!! maybe THEY know when one will not have a need of a second or third knee???

see...I have those lumpy aging knees!!....after the surgery...and yes... there is muscle atrophy too... Hello Physiotherapy!!

Year's End....

How did this year go by so fast!!....

What Happened???
Memories...for recall...whimsical...sad...funny....silly....some should be forgotten...others kept close to one's heart and cherished forever.....

Here's some of mine....

January....we were all getting our lives straight....Heidi returned to VA in February...It was a long 3 days...Snow ...Rain...Mom and Daughter sharing a lot of time together!!.... Lots of episodes of The Gilmore Girls...I so recognised the situations..and wished they had been around years before....Depression continued to invade my life...my emotions....I let go of my house....Bailey died....moving to a 1 bedroom apt from a 4 bedroom house...."stuff" coming out my ears....Questions...lots of talking...where does this go...do you want this packed or with you?.. you have too much ....Have a Garage Sale.....so much to be dealt with...my brain went on strike...Now to get rid of it all....easier now...new meds, old meds....too many meds... looks like I could be over half way home..no return..move forward

Summer...A new puppy...new life...new adventures...by my side...a home full of stuff and a puppy = love and not so much stuff....following Heidi's adventures ...Wow... going to shows..bringing the blue ribbons home...me here, her there.... Thankful for techno conveniences....it seems she is just down the road,close...not 1700 miles along the I-70.....car engines failing....finances.....the Births of three baby boys....Friends...Family....strangers... Acquaintances....Gold and Silver...
Fall.... the eventing season almost gone... Championships for Heidi... her stress...my joy in what she has accomplished... 3rd in the Nation for the division she is Champion in... Hard work ..loving and enjoying what she does every day..no stopping for holidays..illness....my Birthday keeps on coming... more pain ...waiting for it to go away... Dr's....Exams...Xrays...MRI's....wait a minute.. this is ME... I don't do this.... I can put up with it til it goes.... but I can't... you need a new knee!! the Doc says...lets clean it up first ( surgery)...repair the tear..scrape away the arthritis...can't I just have a new knee?? ..Nope.. you are too young...I don't feel young...all my joints complain...I don't like pills...I used to take them like a champ...it was my sister who broke them into pieces...now I have to just gulp big and swallow....eeyuck!...every day....

Thanksgiving....a time to share.. a time to care....a time to have fun on Black Friday... it is tradition...for Heidi and me.... to get up early (tho this year we had to stay up...)having checked the adverts...planned our attack... and back home looking at our wares...thinking of the joy of the night.. talking with strangers who, for a moment have become friends....the anticipation of winning... the O.K-ness of not....

And now it is Christmas Time... Holidays...work days.. rest days... Happy Christmas...remembering our Brother... without whom we would not be here... doing what we are doing .....knowing what we know... preparing for what we know is to come...by Faith..sweet Faith....

Remember Remember the Fifth of November....

Gunpowder,Treason and Plot.....the celebration of the attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605...or the Execution of Guy Fawkes who had engineered the plan...

Growing up in England our Fireworks night was tonight... the Fifth of November....The weather usually was cold... very cold... and hopefully no rain....
Rain would put a damper on the bonfires.... and the fireworks....Many a Fifth of November my sisters and I would huddle outside our home watching as our Dad would set off the "standard" fireworks.. we would get dizzy as we spun around, sparklers in hand, laughing in glee at the dazzling silver seen in a disarray of patterns, letters and words.... We then often got together with the neighbours for heart-warming soup ,Jacket potatoes and fresh crusty bread with heaps of butter...Always a personal favourite!

YSA speaker trying to make a point about obedience: Are you living the law of tithing just because you don’t have any money? Or because you love the Lord? Are you living the law of chastity just because you can’t get any even if you tried? …

BYU Coed: AAUGH! Whenever I type ‘Nicole,’ my phone changes it to ‘nipple!’ How awkward.

6-year-old watching sacrament tray come down the row: Look Mom. Here comes the free food.

Ward member bearing his testimony: … but sometimes I am a stupid man.
Sunbeam: He can’t say stupid. My mom will make him go to his room.

Advice from a dating panel for a combined YM/YW activity: Never be alone while you’re dating. Never be alone! Even after you get married, you should never be alone.

5-year-old boy: Did you know you have to save your kisses on the lips for your wife? Did you know that?

Teacher: When you turn 12 you will get the Aaronic Priesthood.
CTR 5 boy: Does that mean I can use The Force?

7-year-old daughter: Hey mom, is the temple Heavenly Father’s cabin?
Mom: No honey! It’s His temple.
7-year-old daughter: Oh. I thought because church is Heavenly Father’s house, the temple would be His cabin.
Mom: Well, that is one way to think about it. But the temple is especially sacred so I wouldn’t call it a cabin.
7-year-old daughter: Yeah you are probably right. It’s more like a house.

Elder announcing a ward activity:We will be having a murder mystery, so if you are on the committee please meet with us to help plan the murder.
Bishop’s wife: Let me get this straight. The bishop just went out of town, so your planning a murder?
Elder: Don’t worry; we’ll start with a prayer

and many more....but I'll stop there...

It has been Voting Day here... Not allowed... so no, I didn't vote... which means I can't complain...So I'll have myself a laugh here....

International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners....My next Goal...

The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential identifies a knowledgeable and experienced member of the maternal-child health team who has specialized skills in breastfeeding management and care. The IBLCE certification program offers the only credential in lactation consulting and is available globally.

IBCLCs have passed a rigorous examination that demonstrates the ability to provide competent, comprehensive lactation and breastfeeding care. Attainment of the IBCLC credential signifies that the practitioner has demonstrated competence to:
work together with mothers to prevent and solve breastfeeding problems
collaborate with other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive care
encourage a social environment that supports breastfeeding families
educate families, health professionals and policy makers about the far-reaching and that supports, protects and promotes breastfeedinglong-lasting value of breastfeeding as a global public health imperative.
With a focus on preventive health care, IBCLCs encourage self-care, empowering parents to make their own decisions. IBCLCs use a problem solving approach to provide evidenced-based information to pregnant and breastfeeding women and make appropriate referrals to other members of the health care team.

Above is one of the latest bits of information.....

Now.. yes, I am studying again... for my Lactation Consultant Certification....
These last few months I have been preparing myself for this certification... I have the academic knowledge and the practical know-how to be recognized officially for what I have been doing for years... a few weeks ago,I attended and completed Marie Biancuzzo's prep class: http://www.breastfeedingoutlook.com ,for this part of my career.... I will take the exam next July... it is recognized internationally..duh.... no insult to anyone's cognition...

another update.... I have been hobbling around for the last month in almost continual botheration with knee pain... hmm.. I FINALLY thought I had better get it checked out... oh yeah... a torn meniscus of my rt knee...ping!!.... I had an MRI my very first.... for myself..I have watched kids and babies go through the machine....many a time.... while I was waiting for my copy of the film to be burned on to a cd..(I did try without success to load an image here..) Mike, the very warm and welcoming clerk... called me over... may I shake your hand,please...hmm... why? as I did as he asked... he looked toward me,a sweet and sincere smile lighting his eyes.. the tech just told me..."She isn't just a nurse... she is a Neonatal nurse... you know what she has to know?...I told Mike I was honored... honored to have been given a great welcome and respect as a patient...my Tech was fantastic...He knew it would be a pain to have my knee locked still for a half hour...He acknowledged that with a "you were awesome..you did great"... I did feel great.. with a sore knee.... that I had been attended by someone who, too, was well educated in his chosen career...because I certainly didn't know the intimate details of working a CT machine...now give me a premie baby needing the full respiratory support of a ventilator... and I will show you what I do with great pride and compassion.... I am humbled to be recognized for what I truly love to do with all my heart....I may complain that I have work "today" ..However,I wouldn't be anywhere else ...Which leads to me.....Nasia and her family who have been very much in my thoughts and prayers .....Thank you Bob, for the updates and photos and permission to present Nasia here...

Nasia who was born in Queensland,Australia 15 weeks early..Her Mom, Chelsea..I was around in Tasmania 20+ years ago when she was born... how time flies...
Nasia is home now... happy and healthy... Nasia,Ammon and Chelsea did wonderfully,it is not easy to experience a very premature birth of a Daughter of God...to let strangers take control of the little life you gave your Daughter and not be able to do anything at that moment except to Pray and remember to trust that Heavenly Father really does know what He is doing..... to trust that those giving sweet tender care to your daughter really knows what they are doing.......my heart went out to their family when Bob let us know that little Nasia presented herself way too early.... ... Blessings have been showered on everyone!!....
